January 28, 2025 – Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) announces the successful implementation of its API connection with Clearstream, one of the world’s largest fund processing platforms, to simplify the account opening process for investors. This latest expansion demonstrates an ongoing commitment between BBH and fund platforms to enhance the investor onboarding experience, with wider adoption of the API expected in 2025.
The connection allows account opening requests to be sent electronically between BBH and Clearstream by transmitting investor information over the API, thereby reducing manual processing risks and improving efficiency of the onboarding experience for investors.
“Digitization in the transfer agency function is a priority for us, and we remain focused on building digital solutions that work at scale across the industry’ said Manuel Dienhart, BBH’s Transfer Agency Product Executive and Global Head of TA. “By connecting Clearstream and BBH through our API, we’re reducing siloed manual operations across transfer agents and platforms to give investors a less fragmented onboarding experience and a quicker time to market.”
BBH’s account opening API launched in 2024, with Clearstream being the next major European platform to benefit from this connectivity. The API has been designed to work across a range of platforms, banks, and transfer agents, which will allow for further adoption of the API from fund distribution platforms in 2025.
“Clearstream and BBH are dedicated to ensuring a seamless onboarding process for investors. This new initiative will significantly improve the overall investor experience” said Neil Wise, Member of the Executive Board at Clearstream Fund Centre, “Being able to send account opening requests in an automated way is a fundamental building block for straight-through processing in the investor onboarding space. We’re delighted to see the investor account opening process streamlined in this way”.
