February 22, 2021 – Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. (BBH) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new General Partners: Valentino Carlotti and Noriyasu Sonobe, effective January 1, 2021. Both are well recognized in their specialties and have played important roles in the industry and at BBH. Their appointments represent an important investment in the future of the firm and reflect the growth of our Private Banking and Investor Services lines of business.

Valentino Carlotti joined BBH in July 2020 as a Partner-Elect in the Private Banking line of business. On September 30, 2020, Val succeeded Carter Sullivan, who retired at the end of 2020, as Head of BBH’s Corporate Advisory and Banking practice. In this capacity, Val leads our effort to help private business owners achieve their financing, business growth, wealth planning, and family goals across generations of ownership. Val brings two and a half decades of business development, markets, corporate finance, M&A, and relationship management leadership experience to his position at BBH. Most recently, Val served as the Chief Business Development Officer at Sotheby’s, where he was a member of its Executive Management Committee. Prior to joining Sotheby’s in 2017, he was a Partner at Goldman Sachs where he worked for 23 years in various roles in Investment Banking, Institutional Equities Sales, Client Relationship Management, and Human Resources across Goldman's offices in the U.S., Europe, and as President of Goldman Sachs Brazil. Val resides in New York.
Noriyasu Sonobe joined BBH in 2007 and is currently co-Office Head of BBH Tokyo, as well as Head of Relationship Excellence for Investor Services in Japan. He began his BBH career in Tokyo as a Senior Client Service Manager. Since then, Noriyasu has held a variety of leadership roles in Service Delivery, he launched our Japanese client service team in Boston and ultimately, he became Head of Service Delivery Tokyo. Over the last five years, Noriyasu has been instrumental to the expansion of our cross-border business for Japanese institutional investors. In 2017, he transitioned to Relationship Excellence from Service Delivery and became the head of that discipline for our Japanese business. Beyond his responsibilities in Investor Services Tokyo, Noriyasu is also responsible for BBH Investment Services Japan, our Investment Management subsidiary. Noriyasu resides in Tokyo.
