I’m a believer in hiring experts, listening to their advice, and empowering them to use their expertise to make decisions.
What drew you to BBH?
I knew about BBH because it was one of my previous employer’s clients, so I understood a bit about BBH culture and how they treated others. I was so impressed with the respectful and inclusive approach shown to partner organizations and great feedback from people I’d worked with that I didn’t hesitate to apply for a role on the Talent Acquisition team when it came up in 2010.
How would you describe your leadership style and what’s been your biggest learning?
I’m a believer in hiring experts, listening to their advice and empowering them to use their expertise to make decisions. I appreciate feedback and encourage people to share their thoughts with me. Given our broad geographical spread, collaboration is also important. We come together as a team to determine what we need to get done aligned to the needs of the business, so I really trust my team to drive our strategy forward and know that if they need something, they feel comfortable reaching out.
I’ve realized the importance of always being open to learning new things from unexpected places. Some of the most interesting things I learn are from candidates when they share their expertise and experience—a different perspective can really get you thinking.
What advice would you give someone preparing for an interview at BBH?
An interview is the one time you are encouraged to brag about your personal achievements, so be prepared to do so! We are interested in getting to know the real you and how you’ve managed real-life situations, so take the time to think through your career history and the challenges you’ve overcome. It always helps when you can relate your experiences to BBH values – Teamwork, Integrity and Excellence, and how you might already incorporate them into your daily work.
Be transparent about what you don’t know. We don’t expect you to know everything. In such a rapidly evolving environment. Finding solutions, bridging gaps, demonstrating adaptability and an aptitude for learning new skills are often the most important qualities to demonstrate.
And remember, we won’t be the only one asking the questions. You should know that interviewing at BBH is a two-way process. We’ll always make time to answer your questions and listen to what you have to say. Be inquisitive!
What keeps you at BBH?
I enjoy what I do, and I enjoy the team. There is a genuinely positive outlook here and an expectation that things can and will work with the right amount of effort and it’s that combination that keeps me coming back.
