This past August, for the second time, BBH was a lead sponsor for The Simpson Cup, which was played at the renowned Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. Now in its 10th year, The Simpson Cup is a Walker Cup-styled golf tournament organized to benefit The OnCourse Foundation which supports the recovery and reintegration of wounded military service personnel. The tournament, which alternates between prominent golf clubs in the UK and America, pits a national team representing the best 13 British wounded veteran golfers against their American counterparts in what is a thrilling and spirited competition. This year, the Brits evened the overall record at 5-5 between the two countries with a convincing win. The tournament raised a total of $325,000 USD for the OnCourse Foundation to continue its important work.
The OnCourse Foundation was established in 2010 by John Simpson to offer injured service members and veterans the opportunity to participate in golf, both as player/competitors and potentially through employment in the golf industry. As a sport, golf offers a unique platform for players of all skills, backgrounds and diverse abilities to compete on an even basis while improving both their physical and mental health. With so many wounded veterans finding it hard to reintegrate back into civilian life, the OnCourse Foundation helps its members realize their potential, grow their self-esteem and reintegrate productively into civilian life through golf and the golf industry. In yet another OnCourse Foundation success story, American Team member Craig Richard just accepted a permanent position at Baltusrol Golf Club beginning this month.
BBH is proud to sponsor of The Simpson Cup and support The OnCourse Foundation which makes such a positive impact in the lives of wounded veterans on both sides of the Atlantic. Next year’s competition will be back in the UK at the venerable Royal Lytham Golf Club.
