January is national mentoring month in the U.S. BBH believes strongly in the value of mentoring and is proud to partner with Rock The Street, Wall Street (RTSWS), a non-profit organization that provides financial and investment education to high-school girls to spark their interest in finance careers.
Through this partnership, 16 BBHers have been working with 20 students from Millenium High School, located just down the street from our New York City office. The BBH mentors and instructors provide guidance to the students on a wide range of topics including college selection, internship opportunities, finance industry basics and career path planning.
It is fulfilling to see the young women in the RTSWS program become more engaged and empowered as they learn how to be in control of their finances.”
“Mentorships are a critical component of our program, giving the girls a rare opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of what it’s like to work in a financial job before they enter college and select a major,” said Maura Cunningham, Founder and CEO of Rock The Street, Wall Street. “Many of these relationships continue after the program ends, and those professional connections open new doors to future careers.”
Since launching the partnership this past fall, the students have experienced an 81% increase in financial literacy, with 91% stating that they are likely to pursue a major or minor in finance or economics in college — and, of course, 100% of the students think their BBH mentors are awesome instructors!
"It is fulfilling to see the young women in the RTSWS program become more engaged and empowered as they learn how to be in control of their finances,” said Page deGregorio of the BBHcares team. “They represent our future and it is our responsibility to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed, giving them the confidence to reach their full potential and follow their dreams. I am excited to see our partnership with RTSWS continue to grow.”
